Maria Ozawa, seorang bintang iklan ternama di Jepang mendapat tugas untuk memberikan hadiah pemenang kuis langsung ke Jakarta. Rencana keberangkatan Maria ini ia tulis di blog pribadinya, yang ternyata dibaca oleh tiga anak muda Kevin, Bimo dan Aan. Berita ini membuat Bimo dan Aan semangat dan memaksa Kevin untuk menjemput Maria di bandara. Kevin yang sedang lesu karena diancam Mike, untuk menjauhi Jessica, gadis yang sudah ia cintai sejak ia TK, akhirnya menurut untuk pergi melihat Maria secara langsung

Namun gara-gara ramainya para penggemar Maria di bandara, terjadi kekacauan. Seorang gadis Taiwan, Mie Yao Bie, disangka Miyabi. Alhasil gadis itu dikejar-kejar dan Aan yang ingin menjadi pahlawan di mata Maria, memaksa Kevin dan Bimo “menyelamatkan” Mie Yao Bie dari kejaran penggemar. Mie Yao Bie tentu saja mengamuk, menyangka Kevin cs adalah penculik. Sementara itu, Aan dan Bimo melihat kecantikan Mie Yao Bie melihat peluang untuk memenangkan pertaruhan dengan Mike. Mike memang memberi syarat, kalau Kevin cs tidak bisa membawa gadis cantik ke party, maka Kevin harus menjauhi Jessica seumur hidup

Sementara itu, Jessica mulai tidak betah dengan tingkah laku Mike yang kasar, ingin memulai hubungan dengan Kevin yang ia pandang polos dan lugu. Tapi kemunculan Mie Yao Bie yang terlihat akrab dengan Kevin membuat Jessica sakit hati. Apakah Kevin cs bisa memenangkan pertaruhan dengan Mike, yaitu membawa seorang gadis cantik ke pesta dan mendapatkan hati Jessica kembali? Apa betul seperti kata Mike, Kevin cs cuma mimpi bisa bertemu dengan gadis secantik Maria Ozawa ? Bisakah mimpi mereka bisa menjadi kenyataan?

Reinkarnasi dalam penafsirannya dikalangan umum adalah suatu hal yang belum dapat diterima secara menyeluruh. Seperti halnya dalam paradigma yang saya miliki, reinkarnasi hanya berlaku kepada orang orang pilihan dan tertentu saja yang dengan Kuasa Sang Khalik ia dilahirkan kembali membawa misi misi khusus yang diemban padanya. Apalagi kalau kita menerobos akar masa lalu suatu kepercayaan atau boleh dibilang agama sekalipun, reinkarnasi adalah hal yang sangat dekat dengan sistem tersebut. Tentu saja reinkarnasi memiliki sketsa sketsa tersendiri yang tidak terurai oleh ruas pemikiran yang biasa.Banyak studi studi yang mencoba membongkar kebenaran dan tujuan reinkarnasi, tidak ketinggalan juga dari dunia perfilman yang mencoba menyingkap reinkarnasi dari sisi drama yang kental.

Birth karya Jonathan Glazer menyuguhkan sepenggal drama seorang anak manusia yang mengaku ngaku lahir kedunia adalah reinkarnasi dari seorang suami. Dibuka dengan adegan dimusim salju ketika seorang pria berlari lari disepanjang jalan dan ditangkap oleh kamera long shoot dari arah belakang. Tanpa naskah sama sekali. Ketika tiba didalam sebuah terowongan basah dan gelap, si pria bermantel tersebut tampak terengah engah, menahan rasa sakit ditubuhnya dan mendadak tersungkur. Hening.

Sepuluh tahun telah berlalu, seorang wanita yang telah sekian lama dirundung duka mendalam memutuskan untuk melupakan semua kenangan,cinta dan kebersamaan terhadap mendiang suami dan bersedia menerima pinangan pria lain dalam meniti kehidupan yang baru. Anna (Nicole Kidman) dan Joseph (Danny Huston) akan segera merayakan pesta pernikahan mereka. Namun kebahagiaan itu pecah setelah kedatangan seorang bocah misterius. Si Bocah mengaku ngaku adalah Shawn sang mendiang suami yang telah bereinkarnasi. Si Bocah juga mengatakan kalau Ana harus membatalkan pernikahannya kepada Jospeh. Seluruh anggota keluarga berdebat perkara Bocah tersebut. Anna pun mencari informasi lewat orang tua Shawn. Pun semakin kuat bukti bukti yang dimiliki Si Bocah tersebut,tentang semua kejadian kejadian indah diantara mereka juga orang orang yang berada disekitar mereka, Anna pun percaya bulat bulat dia memang Shawn.

Ketika dirilis film ini mendapat cacian dari beberapa kalangan namun tetap saja beberapa diantaranya memuji dengan riuh. Memang film ini menuai kontroversi karena satu adegan bath tub tanpa busana Nicole kidman dengan anak kecil tersebut. Padahal dalam mengambil gambar mereka tidak berada dalam ruangan dan waktu yang sama. Begitu juga dengan hal hal yang sangat menggaggu lainnya ketika Kidman mencium bibir si anak.Sangat mengganggu.

Film ini memberikan ruang yang baik sekali kepada Nicole Kidman untuk menunjukkan kualitas akting terbaik yang dimilikinya. Bagaimana ia harus tampil dengan sangat intens tampil sebagai wanita rapuh yang merindukan banyak hal hal penting didalam dirinya.Begitu juga ketika ia dihadapkan pada hal hal mustahil yang akan mempengaruhi keputusan terhadap pilihan pilihan kedepannya kelak. Nicole Kidman pun juga sangat memperhatikan transformasi dirinya sebagai aktris yang siap tampil berbeda, termasuk masalah rambut.
Di Cold Mountain Kidman tampil anggun dengan rambur pirang panjang,berambut gelap dan lurus dalam Birthday Girl dan berambut merah menyala di Moulin Rouge.Nah kali ini ia tampil mengenakan wig berambut pendek. Nah ia menjelma menjadi Anna yang luar biasa.
Adegan yang menjadikan film ini sangat kental dengan drama penghayatan bagi saya adalah ketika Anna dan Joseph duduk menonton diruangan teater. Kamera merekam mimik seolah tak percaya Anna diiringi musik orkestra dalam durasi yang cukup panjang. Cool.


Dari sini kita mencoba menggubris kehadiran "kemustahilan" didepan sebuah kehidupan keluarga Anna.Ada rahasia yang ditutup tutupi walau pada akhirnya secara gradual terkuak dan kita akan mengerti bahwa sebuah pembenaran yang kita terima begitu saja menjadi hal terbodoh selama kita memutuskannya.Walaupun tidak mencoba mengupas reinkarnasi dalam skala yang lebih luas dan hanya berkutat pada drama drama eksperimental kesemua karakter karakternya, Birth memberikan pemahaman yang sangat riskan ambiguitas tentang nilai sebuah kelahiran. Terlebih terhadap ending dimana Joseph menghampiri Anna dipinggir pantai, dihadirkan keibaan yang mendalam terhadap kepahitan yang dihadapi Anna, bahwa suatu kesalahan yang jauh lebih besar telah terjadi.

Film yang dinominasikan memperebutkan Golden Lion ini memang layak untuk disimak, apalagi statusnya yang underrated yang jarang dilihat khalayak umum. Sebuah pencapaian yang bagus sekali dari Kidman.

The film begins in eastern Siberia (although the action appears to take place in a desert) with Dieter Von Cunth (Val Kilmer), the villain, and his men taking control of the X-5 missile, which contains a nuclear warhead. The scene then shifts to an Ecuadorian monastery, where Col. Jim Faith (Powers Boothe) and Lt. Dixon Piper (Ryan Phillippe) have come to find MacGruber. The two military men find MacGruber (Will Forte) meditating in a chapel, and try to convince him to return to the United States. MacGruber refuses, even when he learns that the purpose of his return would be to go after his nemesis, Cunth. However, later that night, MacGruber explodes into a fit of rage after a flashback where Cunth killed his would-be wife Casey (Maya Rudolph) at their wedding, and decides to take Faith up on his offer.

MacGruber goes to the Pentagon, and, eventually, finds Col. Faith. After a heated and violent conversation with Faith and Piper, MacGruber decides he will form his own team to pursue Cunth, and will not tolerate Piper on his team. MacGruber visits all his potential team members and is successful in recruiting all but Vicki St. Elmo (Kristen Wiig), his long time friend. MacGruber and his team meet Faith and Piper on a tarmac. Upon being questioned where his team is, MacGruber responds that they are in the van (seen in the background) along with his homemade C-4 explosives. The van promptly explodes, killing the whole team.

Perang Salib ketiga telah berakhir dan tiba saatnya buat Sir Robin Hood of Locksley (Russell Crowe) untuk pulang ke kampung halamannya di Nottingham. Karena terlalu lama meninggalkan Nottingham, Robin tak tahu kalau tanah kelahirannya sekarang berada di bawah tirani sang Sheriff.Robin HoodSheriff of Nottingham (Matthew Macfadyen) memanfaatkan kekuasaannya untuk menekan rakyat. Ia memberlakukan pajak dalam jumlah yang cukup besar sehingga sebagian besar rakyat hidup dalam kemiskinan. Tidak ada yang berani melawan sang Sheriff karena mereka harus berhadapan dengan tentara sang Sheriff yang terkenal kejam.

Tak tega melihat rakyat menderita, Robin kemudian membentuk pasukan kecil dan berbekal kemahirannya memanah Robin mulai menebar teror buat tentara sang Sheriff. Setiap kereta yang berisi pajak buat sang Sheriff dirampok oleh Robin dan pasukannya dan harta yang mereka peroleh kemudian mereka bagian kembali pada rakyat.Robin HoodAnda pasti sudah tak asing lagi dengan cerita di atas. Ya, meski sudah diulang berkali-kali tetap saja legenda itu menawarkan cerita yang sama, bahkan sampai pada saat Kevin Costner memerankan karakter ini dalam ROBIN HOOD: PRINCE OF THIEVES di tahun 1991 lalu. Nyatanya, ini tak membuat Ridley Scott puas. Maka diubahlah cerita standar itu menjadi bentuk penafsiran baru terhadap tokoh legenda ini.

Robin bukan lagi seorang bangsawan namun seorang prajurit bernama Robin Longstride yang kemudian mengambil alih identitas Robert Loxley dan bermaksud mengembalikan pedang milik kesatria yang tewas ini pada keluarganya. Saat bertemu keluarga mendiang inilah petualangan Robin dimulai. Senang rasanya melihat ada penafsiran baru dari legenda lama, sama persis dengan yang dilakukan Christopher Nolan pada Batman atau Tim Burton pada Alice in Wonderland.Robin HoodBagusnya lagi, Ridley Scott juga tak gegabah dalam membuat penafsiran baru ini. Paling tidak naskah yang dikerjakan Brian Helgeland, Ethan Reiff, dan Cyrus Voris terlihat cukup rapi. Masing-masing tokoh dibiarkan berkembang menjadi karakter tiga dimensi sehingga lebih bisa diterima penonton. Pemilihan aktor dan aktris yang tepat pun makin membuat film ini jadi sebuah tontonan yang memuaskan. Dipoles dengan penyajian kolosal ala GLADIATOR lengkap sudah nilai plus yang diberikan Ridley Scott pada para penonton

Police officer Jim Kurring (John C. Reilly) is called to investigate a disturbance at the home of a woman named Marcie (Cleo King). He finds a body in her closet, but when the other police officers arrive they pay little attention to his report on the situation. A young boy, Dixon (Emmanuel Johnson) offers to help Jim with the case by performing a self-penned rap. Dixon claims that in the words of the rap he told Jim who committed the murder, but, thinking the boy is just joking, Jim ignores him.

Former TV producer Earl Partridge (Jason Robards) is in the final stages of cancer, and is being cared for by a nurse, Phil Parma (Philip Seymour Hoffman), while his young trophy wife Linda (Julianne Moore) is out collecting prescriptions for a strong dose of liquid morphine that will end his pain. Earl mentions to Phil that he has an estranged son and asks him to find him, saying his name is Frank Mackey. Phil, aware that Mackey is the author of the "Seduce And Destroy" self-help system for men, orders in some pornographic magazines, hoping to find a phone number for his self-help system in there. Frank Mackey (Tom Cruise) is giving a seminar on manipulating women into sleeping with men. As his seminar breaks for lunch, a reporter named Gwenovier (April Grace) takes him aside to interview him. He tells Gwenovier that his father is dead.

Cocaine addict Claudia Wilson (Melora Walters) is visited by her father, gameshow host Jimmy Gator (Philip Baker Hall), who tells her that he is dying of cancer. However, Claudia is enraged at the sight of him and orders him to leave her apartment. One of the young contestants of Jimmy's gameshow, "What Do Kids Know?", Stanley Spector (Jeremy Blackman) arrives at the studio with his overbearing father Rick (Michael Bowen), who encourages him only because he wants the prize money. A former champion of the show in the 1960s, Donnie Smith (William H. Macy) is now working in a appliance store and is fired by his boss, Solomon Solomon (Alfred Molina) for not making enough sales. Donnie protests, saying he needs money for his "corrective oral surgery," though Solomon tells him he has no need for braces.

Dikisahkan seorang pemuda dari keluarga saudagar kaya Victor Van Dort (Johnny Depp) yang akan dinikahkan dengan Victoria Everglot (Emily Watson) anak seorang aristokrat miskin. Orang tua Victoria menginginkan pernikahan ini untuk mendapatkan kekayaan. Kedua pasangan ini belum pernah bertemu sebelumnya, namun begitu keduanya dipertemukan, mereka berdua saling jatuh cinta.

Victor yang masih belum hapal sumpah pernikahan, lalu bingung dan mondar-mandir. Kebingungan tersebut membawanya masuk ke dalam hutan yang gelap. Justru di keheningan hutan dia bisa melafalkan sumpahnya. Tanpa sengaja ia melihat batangan aneh yang keluar dari tanah yang meyerupai tangan layaknya batang itu adalah tangan Victoria

Dan untuk mengatasi kegugupannya ia berlatih mengucapkan janji menikah serta menyematkan cincin pernikahan pada batangan aneh tersebut. Batang aneh menyerupai tangan itu perlahan-lahan bangun. Ternyata, batang aneh itu adalah tangan sungguhan milik mayat perempuan cantik bernama Emily (Helena Bonham Carter) yang menggunakan pakaian pengantin. Saat Victor mengucapkan sumpah pernikahan, mayat pengantin perempuan itu tersenyum melihat Victor lantas berkata “Aku bersedia!”.

Victor pingsan, dan ketika terbangun, dunia yang dilihatnya sudah berbeda. Mayat hidup yang telah menjadi istrinya ternyata sudah membawanya ke alam lain, ke dunia mayat, dunia tempatnya hidup.

Di sini Victor berjuang memikirkan cara untuk keluar dari dunia para mayat dan melepaskan diri dari istrinya serta menemui Victoria. Ternyata, semuanya tidak seburuk yang Victor pikirkan. Semua mayat sangat ramah pada Victor. Bahkan Emily, istrinya tidak seburuk yang Victor takutkan. Emily sangat ceria dan ia selalu punya cara membuat Victor tersenyum.

Bagaimakah cerita selanjutnya? Apakah Victor akan kembali untuk menemui Victoria atau dia bersedia menjadi pendamping dari Emily untuk selamanya?

S I N O P S I S

Cerita dimulai dari GALIH (20 tahun) yang suka dengan hal-hal gaib, ia adalah sepupunya Keti dari pihak Ayah. KETI (20 tahun) ini sangat mengagungkan persahabatan. BEKTI (20 tahun) orangnya ngocol dengan gaya serampangan, selalu membawa handycam di tangannya dan merupakan sepupunya Keti dari pihak Ibu, BELLA (20 tahun), ia sangat mencintai Gugun dan GUGUN sendiri orangnya ganteng, atletis, namun cinta matinya sama Bella, ia yang main Jaelangkung saat mereka semua menginap di sebuah villa di Puncak.

Satu persatu mereka melihat kedatangan hantu, antara lain hantu Pocong, Kuntilanak, Tuyul, Sundel Bolong, dan LUNA (20 tahun) gadis yang telah menjadi hantu, ia tewas karena kecelakaan mobil saat mereka pulang dari Puncak, yang dilihat samar oleh Bekti. Karena sesuatu hal mereka keseleo ngomong, "Jaelangkung, jaelangkung, datang tak dijemput pulang diantar!", akibatnya para hantu tersebut meneror sepanjang malam. Untung bagi mereka karena tak lama kemudian azan Subuh berkumandang dan para hantu itu pun pergi.

Keesokan harinya saat mereka tiba di Jakarta, mereka berempat berjanji untuk tidak main Jaelangkung lagi. Lalu semuanya berjalan seperti sedia kala dan hari itu mereka sibuk dengan kuliah masing-masing.

Tapi malamnya... teror demi teror muncul. Dimulai dari Keti yang sepanjang malam tidak bisa tidur karena terus mendengar suara tangisan anak kecil di halaman rumahnya, tapi saat dia coba ngecek ke halaman ternyata tak ada seorangpun di sana. Sementara Bella, dia malah melihat bayangan Pocong di tirai kamar kosnya. Begitu juga halnya dengan Gugun yang sepanjang malam tak berhenti mendengar sayup-sayup suara tangisan Kuntilanak.

Overlord (1975)

In the summer of 1975 Overlord took home a Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival and then promptly disappeared for almost thirty years. It resurfaced at the Telluride Film Festival in 2004 and had its U.S. premiere shortly after at the AFI Silver in Silver Spring, Maryland, as well as the Gene Siskel Film Center in Chicago, Illinois. Its director, Stuart Cooper, used archival footage for over one quarter of the film, footage he had pored over for some three years at the British War Museum in London, and it is that footage that gives Overlord its power and, in the end, its greatness.*



Stuart Cooper has done little else with theatrical film. After only three feature length theatrical outings, none of which I have seen, he directed for television exclusively until his retirement in 2000. But with Overlord he achieved something special, something unique. He created a film whose fictional aspects only work as setups for the non-fictional archival footage and whose impact comes from knowing exactly where the fictional story is going. It's a clever cyclical trick that Cooper pulls off quite well. Neither the fictional story nor the actual footage would work without the other.

The story follows Tom Beddows (Brian Stirner) as he leaves his parents home in London to begin basic training after being called to duty in the midst of the greatest destructive event in world history, World War II. The plot is simply that:
Tom going through his training for battle as well as meeting a girl. The training is monotonous and tedious and Cooper intercuts it with stunning archival footage of the war that at once illustrates the different worlds Tom and the war inhabit and how, inevitably, they will be brought together. When they do finally meet, the outcome has already been telegraphed from the first moments of the film onwards. While there is little emotional impact to the ending, simply because the audience is never allowed to go too deeply into Tom's psyche, it has a structural power because Cooper has been informing us all along that this is how it will end. Tom has enough visions of his own death, and early on, that to not know his character will die in the Normandy invasion (Operation Overlord, hence the title) is to be either delusional or exceptionally lazy as an observer. Cooper wants you to know, or at least strongly sense, that Tom's ticket out of this world has already been purchased from the moment he says goodbye to his parents. Because the tragedy is that this young man will spend the last days or weeks or months of his life doing nothing meaningful. As each tedious training routine goes on we want Tom to do something else. Write a poem, compose a sonata, paint a landscape, anything! Don't you know you're going to die? Stop being reticent with that girl. Make passionate love to her, woo her, marry her!

Instead, Tom does his duty. He even writes a letter home letting his parents know, in advance, that he believes he's going to die, to prepare them. And as he trains the war draws closer, the battle footage grimmer, the damage more devastating. They eventually start training on a beach and Cooper intercuts extraordinary archival footage of massive cutting and whirring and rolling machines that drive home the point even further that Tom, indeed all his comrades in arms, are part of a larger machine, one so massive that none of them can see it or even intuit what their part of it is, only that they have a part, and a necessary one.

Overlord is a triumph of design. It is one of the best, if not the best, combination of real and archival footage I have ever seen. What it lacks in emotional resonance it more than makes up for in what one could call "steel trap story structure," that is, sharp, tight and strong. It leaves nothing unresolved while drawing power from the fact that nothing that happens is, alas, unexpected.

The viewer first sees a young woman playing the Ave Maria on a cello, the scene shifts to show another woman bleeding on an operating table.

Another scene shift shows the main character, Hong Mi-ju (Seong Hyeon-ah) watching students playing their cellos while their professor grades them. The professor, being friendly with Mi-ju, tried to coax her into going to a welcome home concert for the little sister of Kim Tae-yeon (Tae-yeon, as we find out, is deceased). Mi-ju appears nervous and politely declines both the concert and a job offer to become more than just an associate teacher. In the teacher's lounge, Mi-ju is confronted by an angry student who tells Mi-ju that all because of Mi-ju, all of her work for music is for nothing. The student is smug and cocky, promising revenge and asks Mi-ju "Are you happy now? You should be!". Mi-ju leaves, shaken, and starts to drive home. On her way back home, she nearly avoids getting into an accident with a truck, and discovers she has luckily avoided death. When she gets home, Mi-ju receives a message on her cell phone: "Are you happy? ...You should be."

Startled, Mi-ju looks around the house while turning on lights, but they snap off when she reaches the attic. There, she sees her elder, autistic daughter, Yoon-jin (Choi Ji-eun), sitting in a chair, facing the window. The lights come on, revealing her husband Jun-ki (Jeong Ho-bin), her sister-in-law Kyeong-ran (Wang Bit-na), and her younger daughter Yoon-hye. Everyone but Yoon-jin, who appears mute and emotionless, sings "Happy Birthday" to Mi-ju. Mi-ju opens her presents, which include a music album from Kyeong-ran, "Rainy Day". Yoon-hye shows her mother how she has taught her older sister to count to five with her fingers, which seems to fascinate Yoon-jin. Later on, as they bathe, Mi-ju tells Yoon-jin how happy she is, how much she loves Yoon-jin. Mi-ju seems to share a special affection for Yoon-jin, as she blames herself for Yoon-jin's autistic condition.

Kekuasaan Jenderal Garza (David Zayas) di sebuah negara di Amerika Selatan memang sangat kokoh. Menurunkan pasukan langsung ke negeri itu jelas tak mungkin dan satu-satunya cara adalah menurunkan pasukan tak resmi untuk melakukan kudeta dan membebaskan rakyat di negeri itu dari penindasan yang sudah berjalan dua puluh tahun lebih itu. Masalahnya, pasukan ini harus benar-benar tangguh karena mereka tak akan mendapat bantuan apa pun dari pihak mana pun.

Harapan kini bergantung pada Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone), sang pemimpin tim The Expendables. Bersama Lee Christmas (Jason Statham), Tool (Mickey Rourke), Bao Thao (Jet Li), Gunnar Jensen (Dolph Lundgren), Hale Caesar (Terry Crews) dan Toll Road (Randy Couture), Barney harus berhasil membunuh Garza dan menumbangkan rezim yang berkuasa.

The film opens with Mumbai Police Commissioner Prakash Rathod taking a respite after a jog, describing in a voice-over that he is going to retire from office the following day, and how numerous people have been recently questioning him about the most challenging case he had to deal with in his entire career, and how he has been deliberately evading such questions. As his voice-over ends the film switches into a narrative, showing the events that occurred on a certain Wednesday, which the Commissioner specifically recalls when being asked the said question. An unnamed man is shown to strategically carry a travel bag, assumed to be explosives, in the Chatrapati Shivaji Terminus railway station and proceeding to place the bag, under the false pretense of lodging an FIR, in the toilet of a police station located near the Mumbai Police headquarters. He then arrives on the rooftop of a building under construction where he has set up his base of operations, equipped with various modern technology gadgets and instruments.

He calls up Rathod and informs him that 5 bombs have been placed in different locations throughout Mumbai, which are programmed to explode simultaneously within four hours unless the Commissioner gives in to his demands and releases four militants. In response, Rathod immediately alerts his team involved in intelligence research and surveillance, tapping all the available resources in gathering preliminary information and tracing the location of the caller. Meanwhile, the caller tips off television news reporter Naina Roy, telling her to reach the police headquarters immediately as it is going to be "the most important day of her life". Rathod initially suspects the anonymous caller to be bluffing, but his doubts are dispelled as the caller, to prove his seriousness and the police force's helplessness, reveals that a bomb has been planted in the police station right opposite to the Police headquarters. He tries to trigger the bomb through a cell phone, but it is located in the nick of time and defused, just as Roy reaches the scene on the caller's instructions and reports about the situation.

S I N O P S I S

Kisah dimulai dari persahabatan Gina (Luna Maya), Tari (Mirasih Tyas Endah) dan Zizi (Imey Liem), yang harus berjuang ketika satu-satunya tempat kost yang mereka tinggali bakal digusur. Tiga perempuan, yang berbeda karakter ini - Gina adalah mahasiswa asal Bali yang bekerja sambilan sebagai wartawan kriminal, Tari mahasiswa dari Manado bekerja sambilan sebagai instruktur aerobik dan Zizi mahasiswi eksentrik yang percaya dunia gaib berasal Jawa Timur yang jadi seniman tato - kompak mempertahankan tempat tinggal mereka agar tidak digusur untuk dijadikan mall.

Sebetulnya, Gina, Tari dan Zizi bisa jadi berpindah kost, tetapi masalahnya dengan uang yang pas-pasan tidak mudah mencari tempat kost yang nyaman. Meski terlihat galak di luar, Ibu Laksmi, sang ibu kost (Yati Surahman) cukup baik pada mereka, sering memberi makan pada Gina cs. Oleh karenanya, Gina mengajak teman-temannya untuk membantu para warga menolak penggusuran ini. Gina juga tidak sendirian, usahanya ini dibantu Seno (Fathir), yang menaruh hati pada Gina.

Usaha Gina, Tari, Zizi dan Seno untuk mengajak warga menolak penggusuran cukup membawa hasil. Sampai suatu hari datang Rido (Reza Pahlevi) bersama anak buahnya yang mulai melakukan aksi mengganggu para warga. Tujuannya satu, agar para warga merasa takut dan akhirnya mau meninggalkan tempat itu. Gina, Tari dan Zizi yang tidak suka melihat hal ini, segera menyusun strategi untuk melawan Rido dan anak buahnya. Bahkan tiga perempuan lembut ini akhirnya harus beradu otot dengan para preman ini. Dengan senjata andalan masing-masing, Gina dengan wajan dan sutilnya, Tari dengan cermin kembar dan gerakan-gerakan aerobiknya, serta Zizi dengan ilmu santetnya.

Dead Man Walking: The Boots of All Quiet on the Western Front

One of my favorite sequences in All Quiet on the Western Front occurs when director Lewis Milestone follows around a pair of boots as they make their way from one owner to the next. Each owner is a German soldier, desperate for a decent pair of walking boots. In a life filled with rats, dysentery, trench foot, spoiled food and constant assault under fire, a decent pair of boots is tantamount to winning the lottery. Only this lottery turns the winner's luck around on him the second he wins. Each soldier who wears the boots dies.

Roderick Heath, in the comment section of his excellent review of The Big Parade, said of All Quiet on the Western Front, "no matter what else you say about it, you can’t get away from the fact it’s a message picture." I agree, even while also believing it to be one of the greater works of early sound cinema and a film filled with great battle scenes regardless of the era. Still, the point is taken: It's a message picture through and through and the boot scene hammers the message home as hard as any other scene but does so in a self-contained, short film kind of a way. It could exist as its own little movie without the rest of the story surrounding it. Also, the boot scene is the one point in the film in which Paul, the main character, disappears while a vignette breaks out in his absence. Maybe that's why I like it so much: it's all so very self-contained. So self-contained (it's only a minute long!), in fact, that the rest of the movie may as well be elaborate ornamentation surrounding it.

The vignette's full story starts with Paul walking out of the hospital with his recently deceased friend's boots. But the character walking out of the hospital with the boots might as well be anyone as far as the vignette is concerned. After all, Paul isn't around to watch the other soldiers die, he's just there to get the vignette rolling. In it we see two soldiers get the boots bringing the death toll to three, which includes Paul's friend. I like that about it too: it's just two soldiers in the vignette, not five or six. The whole sequence commands a sense of brevity and clutter-free message-making that the rest of the film, great as it is, could have turned to a bit more.

The film depicts the inside of a tank, and the view from inside through the gunsight (every change in the horizontal and vertical viewing direction is accompanied by the hydraulic whine of the traversing gun turret). There are four Israeli soldiers inside: the driver in the tank's hull, and the loader, the gunner and the commander in the turret. Part of the time, there is also the body of a dead Israeli soldier (kept there until it is taken away by helicopter), a Syrian POW, a visiting higher officer, and a visiting Phalangist (Lebanese Maronite Catholic allied with Israel) who threatens the POW.

The duty of the soldiers is to clear a Lebanese area of hostile fighters. They are instructed to use phosphorus grenades that are forbidden by international treaty, but to use a code word for them, to conceal their use. The gunner has never fired the tank's cannon in a war situation, and is hesitant at first. As a result, a fellow Israeli soldier is killed. The soldiers have to cope with the deteriorating state of the tank, the heat, bad atmosphere and small space inside, occasional failure of the communication equipment, navigational problems, and mutual quarrels.
